Teacher-Retraining Course 2027–2028
JVBA sets as its main goal the dissemination of correct knowledge of the Vaganova system. We support ballet teachers from Japan in every way we can — from the application to the Academy to everyday life in St. Petersburg — so that you can focus fully on studying the method at its source.
PROGRAM 2027–2028
A one-month program on three levels
The Teacher-Retraining Course at Vaganova Ballet Academy is held for groups of 3 to 8 teachers. Exact dates for 2027–2028 will be announced by the Academy; JVBA collects applications in advance.
Junior classes
Methodology of teaching classical dance in the junior years of the Academy. Duration: 1 month.

Program content and its realization upon request. Duration: 1 month.

The Course includes
Vaganova Ballet Academy, St. Petersburg
• Visual practice and classes observation — daily
• Lectures on Methods of classical dance teaching (6 lectures a week in Russian; translation available at additional cost)
• Consulting with pedagogues of Vaganova Ballet Academy (2–3 academic hours weekly) or practical course
• Presence at rehearsals of the Vaganova Ballet Academy repertoire
• Visual practice at Character dance, Historical dance and Pas de deux lessons
• Testing at the end of the Course
• Lectures on Methods of classical dance teaching (6 lectures a week in Russian; translation available at additional cost)
• Consulting with pedagogues of Vaganova Ballet Academy (2–3 academic hours weekly) or practical course

Certificate and tuition fee
Upon completion of the Course, participants receive the Vaganova Ballet Academy Certificate (Re-training Course).
Tuition fee: 2,500 USD for 1 month (accommodation in a twin room).
Included: daily program; accommodation in the Vaganova Academy dormitory (twin room); daily lunches in the Academy cafeteria; visa invitation.
Single room: +225 USD per month.
Not included: visa expenses, flights, transfers, transportation, health insurance, medical costs.
Payment is transferred in rubles to the Academy’s account.

Support from JVBA
Since 2018 JVBA has accompanied teachers from Japan to the Academy
• Escort and everyday assistance — meeting on arrival, help with daily matters in St. Petersburg, communication with the Academy: from approx. 35 USD per day (incl. tax)
• Interpreter — Japanese interpreter for lectures and consultations: from approx. 21 USD per day (incl. tax; depends on group size and number of lessons)
• Hotel — if you prefer a hotel to the dormitory, we will book it: approx. 90 USD per night with breakfast, depending on the season
• Visa and transfers — help with visa documents and airport transfers
• Application — preparing and submitting your application to Vaganova Ballet Academy

For JVBA members and partners
Teachers who are JVBA members receive special partner conditions for the program, as well as members-only privileges: participation in closed events and meetings of the Association in both Japan and Russia, and other benefits. Please indicate your membership status in the application form, and we will send you the details.
BUDGET
Approximate cost for one month
An estimate per person to help you plan. Final amounts depend on the season, exchange rate and group size.
All tuition at the Academy is in Russian; we recommend taking some Russian language classes before the Course. Number of participants: not less than 3 and not more than 8 teachers in one Course. Vaganova Ballet Academy may reject an application without giving reasons and, prior to signing the Agreement, may alter the dates of the Course. Conditions are based on the Academy’s official information and may change for 2027–2028.
